Free Standing Perspex^® Screens

Office have long been seen as an economical way to partition an office or area into separate sections. Screens were chosen based on function, aesthetics, colour and budget; but COVID-19 has made us aware of the need for screens that are easy to keep clean and sanitised to help prevent the spread of any illness within the workplace.

The choice of surface materials is important; Perspex®, glass or acrylic pods and transparent office screens are suitable as they can be wiped clean but they also allow light in, so not as claustrophobic as fabric covered cubicles or booths. Our partitions and screens are manufactured with aluminium or PVC edgings making them non-porous and easier to maintain.

Coronavirus is transferred from person-to-person through tiny droplets expelled from the nose or mouth when someone sneezes, coughs or even breathes. These droplets can be transferred directly from one person to another if someone is standing very close, or they can land on surfaces that are then touched by someone else, and the virus is transmitted that way.

Social distancing screens are useful both in public environments and customer-facing businesses as well as offices and other workspaces. A smooth, Perspex®, acrylic or glass panel acts as a barrier to Coronavirus droplets in the air, allowing two people to interact more safely with a social distancing partition between them. 

It’s important to remember that wiping down these panels with sanitiser or bleach products regularly is essential to provide maximum protection against germs and viruses.

Perspex® acrylic is a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) acrylic which is made from methyl methacrylate monomer (MMA) and trademarked by Lucite International, now Perspex International Ltd. Produced directly from methyl methacrylate monomer, a panel of Perspex® is cast between two sheets of high-quality glass, before being polymerised in specially designed kilns and water baths in a manufacturing process first discovered by scientists in 1934, the year in which the name Perspex® was trademarked. 

Perspex® is easy to keep clean and sanitised, which makes it an excellent choice for social distancing screens. Simply wipe your panels down regularly to maintain a healthy and hygienic work environment.

Transparent Perspex® offers better optical clarity than glass, meaning that a clear Perspex® screen will maintain proper social distancing within your workplace but still allow light to pass through for an airy and pleasant work environment. It also makes communication between colleagues, or between staff and customers, easy and effective.

To remove smudges or smears, wipe down your Perspex® screen with warm, soapy water using a microfibre cloth.

Avoid using ammonia-based products as these can damage the surface of the acrylic, eventually causing cloudiness. We also recommend NOT using paper towels or kitchen towel to wipe down your Perspex panel as they don’t do a very good job of removing any scratches and may even cause damage. Stick to soft microfibre cloths wherever possible. Did you know that the composition of microfibre cloths make them more effective in wiping away harmful bacteria and viruses?

To sanitise your Perspex® screen, you can use a standard antibacterial wipe or diluted bleach solution, and then polish the surface with a microfibre cloth.
